Scorpio Season runs from October 23 through November 21, and it is the deepest water of the year. The Sun leaves Libra's balance and relationships behind and goes under the surface, into what is hidden, what has ended, and what is waiting to be reborn. This is the season of Samhain, when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest, and the season when the stones we reach for are the dark ones: black onyx, labradorite, garnet and smoky quartz. Here is how we work with Scorpio energy in the studio, and the pieces we wear through it.
What Scorpio Season asks of us
Scorpio is a fixed water sign, ruled by Pluto in modern astrology and by Mars in the older tradition. Fixed means it holds. Water means it feels. Put those together with Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, and you get a season that does not do anything halfway.
Where Libra asked us to see every side, Scorpio asks us to pick one and go all the way down. It brings the psychological depths and the hidden nature of who we are to the surface. The highs are high, the lows are low, and the lesson is to acknowledge both the light and the dark in ourselves and in our relationships. First it hurts, and then it heals.
In its highest expression, Scorpio is loyalty, intimacy, intuition and the courage to transform. In its shadow, it is secrecy, obsession and the grudge that will not let go. The work of the season is to let the old thing die so the new thing has room. That sounds dramatic because it is. Scorpio is the sign of the scorpion, the serpent and the phoenix, and all three are about shedding what no longer protects you.
Scorpio is the eighth sign, and eight in numerology is the number of power, cycles and the infinite loop. The ouroboros, the serpent eating its own tail, is the perfect Scorpio symbol: the end feeding the beginning. We have been drawn to that image for years, and it is why the Serpent Queen necklace exists.
Samhain and the thinning of the veil
Halfway through the first week of the season comes Samhain on October 31, the night the old calendars treated as the turn of the year. It is the time to honor the dead, to sit with endings, and to do the shadow work that the rest of the year makes easy to avoid. If you keep an altar, this is the week to clear it and start it fresh. If you do not, this is a good season to start one, even if it is just a stone and a candle on the windowsill.
Stones to work with during Scorpio Season
Crystals can serve as intentional talismans during Scorpio Season, supporting the qualities this sign asks us to explore: protection, transformation, intuition, release and personal power. Whether you wear them every day, bring them into ritual, or simply choose one as a reminder of your intention, these are the stones we reach for from now until the Sun moves on.
Black Onyx
For protection, grounding and boundaries
Black onyx is a variety of chalcedony, a dense, fine-grained quartz, and it has been carved into protective amulets for thousands of years. It is the stone we recommend most for Scorpio Season because its energy is about holding your ground. Onyx absorbs and grounds what is heavy so it does not stay in your field. If you are doing shadow work, grieving, or simply walking into a hard conversation, onyx is the stone to have on your hand.
Wear it as: Moon Phase Shield Ring
The Moon Phase Shield Ring carries a natural black onyx at the center of a shield form, hand carved in wax and cast in sterling silver. It is a protection ring in the most literal sense, built to sit between you and the world. The moon phases around it are a reminder that every dark phase turns.
Labradorite
For transformation, intuition and the hidden self
Labradorite is a feldspar, and its magic is the flash: blue, gold and green light that lives beneath a gray surface and only appears when the stone moves. That is the whole lesson of Scorpio in one mineral. What you see at first is not what is there. Labradorite is the stone of the mystic and the shapeshifter, worn for intuition, for protection during transformation, and for seeing what is hidden, in others and in yourself.
Wear it as: Serpent Queen Necklace
The Serpent Queen Necklace sets a natural labradorite inside the ouroboros, the serpent devouring its own tail: the oldest symbol of death feeding rebirth, cast in sterling silver. If there is one piece in the studio made for this season, this is it.
Also wear it as: Sefira Choker Necklace
The Sefira Choker carries two natural labradorites inside a winged sterling silver form, one suspended below like a shield. Two stones for the two faces of the season: what you show and what you keep.
Garnet
For vitality, devotion and staying power
Garnet is the deep red stone of fire held in the earth, and it has been worn as a traveler's protection stone since antiquity. In Scorpio Season it is the stone for the second half of the work: once something has ended, garnet is what gets you moving again. It is a stone of passion, commitment and life force, the ember under the ash.
Wear it as: Theia Star Shield Ring
The Theia Star Shield Ring from our Astral collection sets a natural garnet into a sterling silver shield, a small, armored piece of fire to wear on the days you need to be reminded that you are still burning.
Smoky Quartz
For release and grounding
Smoky quartz is clear quartz that was colored by natural radiation deep in the earth, which is exactly as metal as it sounds. It is the gentlest of the dark stones, a grounding stone that transmutes heavy energy rather than storing it, and we recommend it to anyone who finds onyx too intense. It is the stone for letting go slowly and on purpose.
Wear it as: Draco Ring
The Draco Ring, named for the dragon constellation that coils between the Big and Little Dippers, sets a natural smoky quartz in sterling silver. A quiet, heavy, grounding ring for the quiet, heavy part of the year.
A simple Scorpio Season ritual
You do not need much. This is the one we use.
- Choose one thing that is over. A habit, a story you tell about yourself, a relationship pattern, a version of you. Write it on paper in a single sentence.
- Hold your stone (onyx or smoky quartz for this) and read the sentence out loud. Say it like you mean it. Then say, out loud, that it is finished.
- Burn the paper, safely, in a bowl. Watch it go. That is the death.
- Put the ring on, or the necklace, and name one thing you are making room for. That is the rebirth. Wear the piece every day until the Sun enters Sagittarius on November 22, and let it remind you.
Keep it small. Scorpio does not reward performance, it rewards honesty.
For the sigil witches
If the stones are not your language, symbols might be. The Lilith Cross Necklace carries the sigil of Lilith in sterling silver, and she is the patron of this season: the one who refused, who left, and who walked into the dark on her own terms. Scorpio Season is hers.
Questions we get every Scorpio Season
What crystal is best for a Scorpio? Black onyx and labradorite are the two we recommend first, for protection and for intuition. The traditional birthstones for Scorpio dates are opal and tourmaline for October and topaz and citrine for November; we reach for garnet in this season for its vitality, and smoky quartz is the gentle option if onyx feels like too much.
Can I wear black onyx every day? Yes. Onyx is a hard, dense stone, so it stands up to daily wear better than softer stones. Take it off before water and store it dry, like all of our pieces, and it will last.
Do I need to cleanse my stones during Scorpio Season? We cleanse at the New Moon and after any heavy ritual. Moonlight, sound, smoke or breath all work. Our full guide to cleansing gemstone jewelry walks through each method.
Scorpio Season is the one we wait for all year. It is dark, it is honest, and it is where the real work gets done. Choose your stone, say the thing out loud, and go under.
